Motivating students is one of the most successful ways to help them speak a foreign language. One of the many ways of keeping the class motivated over the course is to invite them to introduce a character they like to the rest of their classmates. Characters are an essential element of literature, and a close study of the characters in a text reveals much about that text.

If they like a character, they will want to learn more about the book or film in which the characters appear and they may be curious about the author too. When they choose their favourite character, they have a goal in mind and English is necessary for them to reach their goal. So they want to engage in practising the language.

This week, the students in ESO2A have dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Lord Voldemort, The Little Prince and some others. By using a couple of characteristic objects such as a wand or a pair of glasses, they have turned into these characters for a moment and have given us some information about the character, the book or film and the author.
